Indian Pacific train – Sydney to Perth Pt 1

The day before my epic train trip from Sydney to Perth.

Leaving early the next day, flying from Brisbane to Sydney, I booked a room in Brisbane to stay the night. It was at Royal on the Park, Alice Street. A really good room for the night. https://www.royalonthepark.com.au/

Plenty of space and a desk for working at.

I didn’t want to venture away from the hotel. There is an excellent bar on the ground floor, simply called the Lounge Bar. Here is the description from their website:

The Lounge Bar is considered one of Brisbane’s most iconic establishments. Having hosted many a politician and celebrity, the history of the Lounge Bar goes back to the late sixties when it first opened within the now Royal on the Park Hotel Brisbane. Many of the stars who have graced this bar and indulged in a drink or two include Kylie Minogue, John Farnham, UB40, Simply Red and many more.

Relax and unwind in our comfortable leather seating, rich ambience, and enjoy a wide selection of beers, spirits, wines, champagnes and cocktails. Located adjacent the Walnut Restaurant, the Lounge Bar is the perfect place for a pre-dinner beverage prior to dining in the relaxed surroundings of the restaurant.

I settled in for a pre-dinner drink.

It was then time for dinner at the hotel restaurant, called Walnut.

Oysters to start:

Had to be accompanied by a Champagne.

As I’d be having steak for dinner, what was needed was a great bottle of Pinot Noir to go with it.

An excellent choice of food and wine for the last night before my cross continent rail journey tomorrow.
