Charters Towers is 134 kilometres (83 mi) inland (south-west) from Townsville on the Flinders Highway. At the 2016 census the population was 8,120 people. During the last quarter of the 19th century the town boomed as the rich gold deposits under the city were developed. After becoming uneconomic in the 20th century, profitable mining operations have commenced once again. Being such an historic town, this 4K walking tour is packed with heritage listed buildings which protect the rich history of this outback mining town.

It was like walking back in to the wild wild west, but mixed a bit with contemporary Australian country town life.
