Belgrade is a pity modern city with some large fairly recently built structures and a great pedestrian centre with plenty of flowers.

But if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the cosmopolitan city centre, a short distance away is the historic Skadarlija area.

There are restaurants and bars and cobbled streets and a quiet relaxed vibe.
Of course you have to visit the fortress which is great at sunset and it’s view of where the Danube and Sava rivers meet.

I couldn’t walk past a cocktail bar called Hugo’s and not stop for an Aperol Spritz.

There’s plenty of history to explore:

I ate and drank at a few different places in the old part of the city as well as in the city centre.

There’s a part of the city that was bombed in WWII which essentially hasn’t been touched since. There’s still a lot of rubble.
